1Therefore, leaving the word of the beginning of Christ, let us be carried forward to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith in God, 2of the teaching of washings, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3And this we will do, if God permits. 4For concerning those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6and have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they are crucifying the Son of God again for themselves and exposing him to public shame. 7For land that has drunk the rain coming often upon it, and produces vegetation suitable for those for whose sake it is also cultivated, receives blessing from God; 8but if it produces thorns and thistles, it is rejected and near to a curse, whose end is to be burned. 9But we are persuaded concerning you, beloved, of better things, and things belonging to salvation, even though we speak like this. 10For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the labor of love that you have shown toward his name, having ministered to the saints and still ministering. 11And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence for the full assurance of hope to the end, 12so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patient endurance inherit the promises. 13For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, he swore by himself, 14saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you." 15And so, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise. 16For people indeed swear by a greater one, and in every dispute of theirs the oath is final for confirmation. 17In this way God, willing to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeableness of his will, guaranteed it by an oath, 18so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19We have this hope as an anchor of the soul, both secure and firm, and entering into the inner place behind the veil, 20where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.
