1It happened in the days of Ahaz the son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, that Rezin the king of Aram and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem for war against it, but could not wage war against it. 2And it was told to the house of David, saying, Aram has rested upon Ephraim. And his heart shook, and the heart of his people, like the shaking of the trees of the forest before the wind. 3Then the LORD said to Isaiah, Go out now to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool, to the highway of the fuller's field; 4And say to him, Take heed and be quiet; do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of the two tails of these smoking firebrands, because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram, and the son of Remaliah. 5Because Aram has counseled evil against you, Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, saying, 6Let us go up against Judah, and let us tear it apart, and let us break it open for ourselves, and let us make the son of Tabeel reign as king in its midst. 7Thus says the Lord GOD: It will not stand, and it will not be. 8For the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin; and within sixty-five years Ephraim will be shattered from being a people. 9And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not stand firm in faith, surely you will not be established. 10And the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying, 11Ask for yourself a sign from the LORD your God; make deep the request, or make it high above. 12But Ahaz said, I will not ask, and I will not test the LORD. 13And he said, Hear now, house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, that you will weary my God also? 14Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Look, the virgin will conceive and bear a son, and will call his name Immanuel. 15He will eat curds and honey, when he knows to reject the evil and choose the good. 16For before the boy knows to reject the evil and choose the good, the land whose two kings you abhor will be forsaken. 17The LORD will bring upon you, and upon your people, and upon your father's house, days that have not come since the day that Ephraim turned away from Judah—even the king of Assyria. 18It will happen in that day that the LORD will whistle for the fly that is at the end of the rivers of Egypt, and for the bee that is in the land of Assyria. 19And they will come and rest, all of them, in the desolate valleys, and in the clefts of the rocks, and on all the thornbushes, and on all the pastures. 20In that day the Lord will shave with a razor that is hired beyond the River, even with the king of Assyria, the head and the hair of the feet; and it will also consume the beard. 21It will happen in that day that a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep. 22And it will happen, because of the abundance of milk they give, he will eat curds; for curds and honey will everyone eat who is left in the land. 23It will happen in that day that every place where there will be a thousand vines for a thousand silver pieces, will be for briers and for thorns. 24With arrows and with bow people will come there, because all the land will be briers and thorns. 25And all the hills that with the hoe are hoed, you will not go there for fear of briers and thorns; but it will be for the sending forth of oxen, and for the treading of sheep.
