1For you yourselves know, brothers, our entrance, the one toward you, that it has not been empty; 2but having previously suffered and been shamefully treated, as you know, in Philippi, we spoke boldly in our God to tell you the gospel of God in much conflict. 3For our exhortation is not from error, nor from impurity, nor in deceit; 4but just as we have been tested by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing humans, but God, the one testing our hearts. 5For at no time were we found with a word of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed—God is witness— 6nor seeking glory from humans, neither from you nor from others, 7but we became infants in your midst, as if a nursing mother cherishes her own children, 8so, yearning for you, we were well pleased to impart to you not only the gospel of God but also the souls of ourselves, because you became beloved to us. 9For you remember, brothers, our labor and the toil; for working night and day, so as not to burden any of you, we preached to you the gospel of God. 10You are witnesses, and God also, how holily and righteously and blamelessly we behaved toward you who believe, 11just as you know, how each one of you, as a father his own children, 12for you to walk worthily of the God, the one calling you into his own kingdom and glory. 13And for this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of hearing from us of God, you accepted not the word of humans but, as it truly is, the word of God, which also works in you who believe. 14For you became imitators, brothers, of the assemblies of God, the ones being in Judea in Christ Jesus; because you also suffered the same things by your own countrymen, just as they also did by the Jews, 15the ones killing both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and driving us out, and not pleasing God, and being hostile to all humans, 16hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always. But the wrath of God has come upon them to the end. 17But we, brothers, having been orphaned from you for the season of an hour, in face not in heart, hurried even more exceedingly to see your face with much desire; 18because we wanted to come to you—I indeed Paul, both once and twice—and Satan hindered us. 19For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? Is it not even you, before our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 20For you are our glory and the joy.
