1Finally then, brothers, we ask and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that just as you received from us how you must walk and please God—just as you also are walking—that you abound more; 2for you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4that each of you know how to control his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5not in passion of desire, just as also the nations the not knowing God; 6that no one overstep and take advantage of his brother in the matter; because the Lord is an avenger concerning all these things, just as we also forewarned you and thoroughly testified. 7For God did not call us for uncleanness, but in sanctification. 8Therefore indeed, the one rejecting rejects not man, but God, the one who also gives his Spirit the Holy to you. 9Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you; for you yourselves are God-taught to love one another; 10for indeed you do it toward all the brothers in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, to abound more, 11and to make it your ambition to live quietly, and to do your own things, and to work with your own hands, just as we instructed you; 12so that you may walk properly toward the outside ones, and may have need of nothing. 13But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning the sleeping ones, so that you do not grieve just as also the rest, the not having hope. 14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also God will bring with him the sleeping ones through Jesus. 15For this we say to you in a word of Lord, that we the living, the remaining ones until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede the sleeping ones; 16because the Lord himself will descend from heaven in a shout of command, in a voice of an archangel, and in a trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first; 17then we the living, the remaining ones, will be caught up together with them in clouds for a meeting of the Lord into air; and so we will always be with Lord. 18So then, encourage one another in these words.
